Nissan e-NV200 Electric Van Goes into Production in 2014

The North American International Auto Show is the perfect venue for a debut and Nissan knows it. That is why it unveiled its all-new, pure-electric e-NV200 Concept at the event last year.

The electric version of the Nissan NV200 commercial van is scheduled to become the Big Apples official taxi cab, but Nissan hopes the distinctive e-NV200 will also appeal to families.

As an electrified version of the NV200 commercial van, the new Nissan e-NV200 Electric promises to deliver payload and cargo space on par with its gasoline-powered predecessor. If you know the 2012 Nissan NV200, you'll understand that those specs are quite generous. The 2012 Nissan NV200 offers a payload of approximately 1,700 pounds and cargo space of roughly 145 cubic feet. In fact the main differences between the e-NV200 and NV200, are that the first one is an electric vehicle, but also that it targets a new audience.

While the 2012 Nissan NV lineup currently available through Anchor Nissan serving Providence, North Attleboro and North Providence, RI is targeted primarily at businesses, the forthcoming Nissan e-NV200 is expected to boost more energy into the small van market, appealing to both organizations and families.

On the esthetic side, the Nissan e-NV200 offers a much more unique look than its predecessor. It's at once modern and retro with a very friendly demeanor that suits it environmentally-friendly powertrain perfectly. A few jazzy touches can be seen throughout as well. The most memorable of which, is perhaps the electric van's two-tone, body-colored wheels.

Testing of the e-NV200, Nissan will continue into the summer in cooperation with the Japanese Post Service and the new EV van, bearing the well-known FED EX logo, will undergo even more testing in the crowded streets of London.
