Nissan is working on an advanced supercharged engine that will be connected to a hybrid powerplant for the upcoming Nissan Leaf, alongside other Nissan models.
This new hybrid, which will be available at Anchor Nissan, located at 1041 Eddie Dowling Highway, North Smithfield, RI, one day, connects a supercharged 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine with CVT transmission, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery pack.
Details on fuel economy ratings will depend on the actual vehicle, though Nissan "seems to have set out to build a system that is equal parts performance and fuel economy."1
A Supercharger will provide more baseline power than a turbocharger. Nobody can deny that a supercharged hybrid system could deliver huge amounts of low end torque, which would please most of the anti-hybrid crowd.
Other reports have suggested the new hybrid system will debut in next-gen Nissan Altima or Nissan Maxima vehicles, working with all engines that are between 2.0 and 3.5 liters, along with Nissan's performance V6.
